The Heavens Declare
Saturday, August 25, 2007 1:34 PM

Psalm 19

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?
Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
and innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Militant Atheism is Dangerous
Friday, August 10, 2007 4:57 PM

Fortunately, most atheists don't really live in a way consistent with their worldview. Consistent atheism eliminates all philosophical grounds for jurisprudence. If God is eliminated, EVERYTHING is permissible. See Stalin, Pol Pot, Amin, Robespierre and Hitler. Now, certainly, supposed Christians have been guilty of awful crimes throughout history. The difference is atheists can use their worldview to justify their wicked actions. Inconsistent atheists cannot use their worldview to protect themselves from consistent atheists. No Christian can use the Bible to justify wicked actions without showing themselves to be a liar.

Enjoy this American Vision Atheist Video. Excellent use of irony and sarcasm. Pass it on.

Domestic Fidelity: Dominion's Fragrance
Saturday, August 04, 2007 4:52 PM

Does the promise of God in the 5th Commandment extend only to Israel? Does the 5th Commandment extend only to the nation of Israel? Does the Old Testament really matter anymore in today's culture of the way-cool, spikey-haired, awesome-like-wow, 22-year-old, no-children-of-my-own youth guy? Jesus' words in Matthew 5 show us that we are to gladly bow to the always-abiding complete validity of the exhaustive details of all of God's Word.

In the 5th Commandment, we see that ongoing family fidelity to God's Word is the unstoppable vehicle God has appointed to spread His Kingdom over all the earth.

In the opening pages of his book, Homemaking, J.R. Miller adorns the 5th Commandment:

"The benediction that falls upon the homes of a country is like the gentle rain that descends among the hills. A thousand springs are fuller afterward, and along the banks of a thousand streamlets flowing through the valleys the grass is greener and the flowers pour out richer fragrance. Homes are the springs among the hills, whose many streamlets, uniting, form like great rivers society, the community, the nation, the Church. If the springs run low the rivers waste; if they pour out bounteous currents the rivers are full. If the springs are pure the rivers are clear like crystal; if they are foul the rivers are defiled. A curse upon homes sends a poisoning blight everywhere; a blessing sends healing and new life into every channel. Homes are the divinely ordained fountains of life. It is not by accident that men live in families rather than solitarily. The human race began as a family, and Eden was a home. The divine blessing has ever rested upon nations and communities just in the measure in which they have added to these original institutions and have kept marriage and the home pure and holy; and blight and curse have come just in the measure in which they have departed from these divine models, dishonoring marriage and tearing down the sacred walls of home."

May all of God's people embrace this truth that the fidelity of our homes is the appointed means of fragrant dominion.
