Distracted, Duped and Dangerous

Published Saturday, April 26, 2008 1:24 PM

Obama really wants to be the U.S. President.

Hillary and others have been (for various reasons) focusing on Obama's known ties to hate-filled, vitreolic extremist Jeremiah Wright and known terrorists of the Weather Underground, Ayers and Dohrn. This is worthwhile news. It has been effective in causing many sane Americans to reject Obama's slick talk and categorize him as a very dangerous man, potentially a real wolf in sheep's clothing, with hidden plans to destroy America.

Rozita Swinson is a pledged Obama delegate. See precinct 269. http://www.peakdems.org/obama_state_del.asp It appears as though she is connected to the phone call tips that led to the recent Fundamentalist Mormon family raids in Texas.

Swinson was arrested on April 16th, accused of intentionally reporting false allegations under a fake name, in an unrelated abuse claim. The anonymous tip in the Texas Mormon case was from her phones and appears to also be fraudulent.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/23/AR2008042303551.html?hpid=sec-religion Here is the most dangerous idea from that article: "On Wednesday, officials at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said that the facts surrounding the first phone call had become irrelevant because the raid turned up independent evidence that underage girls had been impregnated." So, now, the 4th Amendment to the Constitution is "irrelevant." THIS IS DANGEROUS. The 4th Amendment was equally abused by the Patriot Act, just using a different form of fear to trick us into giving away our hard-earned freedoms.

So, one way to explain this whole mess is that Swinson (with Obama's knowledge??) was motivated by a desire to distract Americans from Obama's ugly past. The more the media talks about the Texas Mormons, the less time the media can spend looking at Obama. This is the key to distraction. There is only so much time in the day.

But, it gets worse. This form of distraction is also deceptive. It works to stereotype Christians who are different from the surrounding culture. This event in Texas has not only distracted Americans; it has duped Americans, as well. Many well-meaning Americans now believe that counter-cultural living, modest dress from the past, agrarian lifestyle separated from the modern world and homeschooling are to be categorized as probably abusive, criminal and worthy of state intervention without appropriate evidence of wrongdoing.

Now, it gets even worse. Yes, Americans are distracted away from Obama by this event. Not a major deal because it is only temporary. And, yes, Americans are duped by a false stereotype of some Christians. But, now, Americans have become dangerous, and I mean bright, well-meaning Christian men and women who sincerely want to see the Kingdom of God advanced. They have become dangerous because THEY are now propagating this stereotype, and by doing this they work to validate the most dangerous idea of all: The 4th Amendment is "irrelevant" as long as you find some sort of wrongdoing after raiding the home/family, especially if the family is wierd, like those "women in pioneer dresses...dressed like Laura Ingalls."

Here is an example of a well-meaning Christian man who is distracted, duped and dangerous on this issue: http://steeplemedia.com/blogs/son_of_liberty/archive/2008/04/08/zombie-pioneers.aspx

Make no mistake, I am in no way arguing in favor of the Texas Mormons. If there was evidence of criminal activity, they should have been investigated. If then proven guilty, they should be punished according to the law. This discussion is really not about their strange and ungodly ways.

Oh yeah, and Joe, I am still wating for your promised reply to my questions regarding God's Law, which I can only assume you are really working on. You know, the reply that you removed from your blog, never re-posted and never responded to. http://steeplemedia.com/blogs/son_of_liberty/archive/2008/02/18/let-s-not-mince-words.aspx#comments

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

4th Amendment to the United States Constitution

B8, you make me chuckle.  Clearly, this post was not about Mormons, Obama, or the Constitution.  This post was about frustrations with Joe Napalm.

Is this post one big "smokescreen"?  And is trying to connect violating the Constitution or the politics of Obama to a silly post by Joe a "strawman" argument?

The lonely man on the island reading this post would probably scratch his head and ask, "What is the point of this post?"

To which, I would answer ...

# Bahnsen8 said on Monday, April 28, 2008 9:05 AM

Wesley,

Thanks for taking the time to read my long ramble. Here comes another. For starters, here is the 6th amendment to the US Constitution:

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."

Joe's post IS not just "silly." It IS dangerous. All such publications ARE dangerous. Those homes and families in Texas were invaded, searched and are now fragmented WITHOUT A SINGLE oath or affirmation providing probable cause. And do not try to argue that an ANONYMOUS phone tip can provide probable cause. According to the 6th amendment, the accused has the right to face their accuser. Thus, both the 4th and the 6th amendment are being IGNORED and TRAMPLED, not only by those in Texas who are doing it, but by those like Joe who are continuing to propagate the stereotype used to justify this abuse and violation. I would expect more from a "Son of Liberty."

Say all you want about the crazy and ungodly LDS cult that is being mistreated. Fine. But AS SOON AS YOU BEGIN TO JUSTIFY TYRANNY BECAUSE THE MISTREATED SEEM STRANGE, THEN YOU BECOME A PARTY TO TYRANNY. FURTHERMORE, WHEN YOU THEN COMPARE THEM TO OTHER CHRISTIANS THAT SEEM STRANGE TO YOU, YOU INVITE AN EXPANSION OF THE TYRANNY.

The only right thing for Joe to do is to offer a humble, clear and straightforward apology for his original post.  Same is true for any other Christian who is duped and dangerous on this issue. Furthermore, then move ahead and prove repentance via publication of a defense of our 4th and 6th amendment rights, and an open declaration that the current anonymous phone tip system is a violation of both our 4th and 6th amendment rights, just to get started.

This is too serious an issue to trifle with, men. You guys need to understand better the time in which we are living.

Respectfully,

B8

I believe there are two issues here and you are oddly combining them.

Issue 1: A post about groups who wear pioneer clothes

Issue 2: The Constitutional rights of the FLDS

Issue 1: If Joe had written about individuals who give him a weird feeling because they all wear black shirts and sweat pants and brand new black and white Nike tennis shoes, would you have been so passionate?  Would you have defended the individual groups who also wear that kind of clothes (recall Heaven's Gate)?  Joe wrote a tongue and cheek post.  But come on, B8.  Take a Prozac and chill.

Issue 2: I sat and watched a lengthy discussion on TV about this issue.  Many of the lawyer guests kept re-iterating the delicate situation.  Did the state of Texas handle the situation correctly?  Time will tell.

Issue 1: You are blind if you think his post was only about attire. You are way too smart for this kind of weak justification.

Issue 2: His silence regarding their mistreatment demands a response.

Your comparison to Heaven's Gate situation is ridiculous. You are obviously (again) striving too hard to create a diversion from the real issue at hand. I would defend the 4th and 6th amendment rights of any American, period. So, stop accusing me of selfish motives and do business with the clear and concise issues I raised. My interest is in protecting every American family (including my own) from tyranny. This should be a serious interest of every Christian, in every age, in every place.

And, no, time will not tell. Time has already told. We know that there was no probable cause for the invasion of their homes. Period, end of discussion.

Respectfully,

B8

Accusing you of "selfish motives"?  When did I do that?  Calling my comparison "ridiculous," calling Joe "duped and dangerous," and calling me "blind" is a little over the top.  I still don't get the point of your post.  Do you believe Joe has dismissed the 4th and 6th amendments?  When and where, if so?  I have read his two posts and see nothing about Constitutional rights.  But I forgot--I'm blind and clearly cannot see the deeper meaning of his post (which you appear to be saying is that Joe is attacking the Constitutional rights of fringe Christian groups--Wow, you got that out of "people in pioneer dress make Joe feel uncomfortable.").  If I may say so, your attack is very similar to a discussion about Kwanzaa--an issue was made that was not even there.

How is Obama even relevant to your post?  Yes, he wants to be president.

# Bahnsen8 said on Monday, April 28, 2008 10:42 PM

Wesley, I am sure brother Joe can speak for himself, if he so desires. I would rather not debate you about what you think Joe meant or what you think I meant, or what you think I think Joe thought or blah blah blah.

Respectfully,

B8

Joe's a big boy; he can defend himself.  I know what Joe meant by his post.  On the other hand, I have no clue the purpose of your post.  One moment you are talking about Obama and some conspiracy, the next moment you are talking about how dangerous Joe is (knowing Joe, he probably likes being labeled dangerous).

It would not surprise me if Joe never responds to some of your accusations.  Unlike me, he usually has the internal strength not to join in pointless discussions.

My final word on the pioneer dress post--B8, you went over the top.

Now, discussing the FLDS, that is a different topic all together!

Wesley,

Yes, you should avoid discussions that you believe are pointless.

Writing for this blog requires concentration, skill, forethought and creativity because that is where I've set the bar. Each post is carefully crafted and, for the most part, worded exactly as intended.
