May 2008 - Posts

We have recently gone through some tough layoffs here at bjnotbk, I have had to move the servers from our hillside bunker to the basement of my mom's house.  With an economic crunch such as this you have to cut costs.  Last week I had to sit before a congressional panel and walk through bjnotbk's 2008 1 quarter profits and outline a detailed plan of how I would invest some of the obscene profits back into other, less read, less popular blogs.  Now that all of that is over on to some updates.

1.  Friday is for photos and you are getting lots of photos.

Our family has it's own tag line "bjnotbk...ridding the world of ugly one beautiful kid at a time"

2. L is turning out to be quite the painter.  My agent has been in negotiations with Sootheby's about potentially auctioning off some of L's lesser known works of art.  Here are some recent works as displayed at the bjnotbk museum for the advancement of arts located on our third floor.

These are my favorites...

3. If you like great photography make sure to visit Steve Mckoy's Friday photos here [link] and Joe Thorn's here [link].

Want to see your photo published here?  Submit all family friendly photos to bjnotbk@gmail.com for consideration.  Please note that I reserve the right to publish or not publish any submission.

4.  Product review - I have a treadmill in my garage and a small TV where I can watch movies or Sports Center while I run.  This week I purchased a set of bluetooth wireless headphones and they are da bomb!  I can run and watch TV and hear everything perfectly clear without cranking the volume up to hear over the treadmill.  You can pick these up at Circuit City and they work with MP3 players, Ipods, and TVs.  The quality is fantastic and they are lightweight.

5.  What are you reading?  I have had my head into several books lately.

I just finished Amazing Grace

I just started the book on Whitfield

I finished Vintage Jesus

I am doing a study of 1 John

I am also starting Desiring God, by Piper

and this has come to me to read by two diverse sources so I am taking the hint that I need to read it

Too many good books and not enough time.

6.  What are you listening to?  Me?  I have recently purchased the new Jack Johnson album and am looking forward to the new Coldplay album.

7.  I have gotten back into running and boy have I missed it!  I feel so much better when I can get out the door or on the treadmill I get so many great ideas, thoughts, insights to problems I hadn't had before.  Running for me is mind clearing, it awakes me, and makes me feel alive.

8.  Weekend plans anyone?  I am so excited.  Friday night we have a baby sitter so M and I are going to go to dinner together and try to not talk about "poopie diapers" who will break the code first?  Saturday our BibleFellowship class as well as neighbors, friends, and family are coming over in the evening for an ice cream social.  Want to come?  Just bring a couple of lawn chairs, your favorite ice cream, a scoop, and join in the fun.  By the way...what is your favorite flavor?  My family thinks I am disgusting but I rather enjoy peppermint stick ice cream when it comes out at Christmas.  Monday we again have a baby sitter so M and I are going to get a massage and grab some lunch together.

9.  Thanks everyone for reading bjnotbk this week.  My prayer is that you will be entertained and encouraged or challenged each time you stop by.  I am also praying for you, my readers, that is, so be encouraged in knowing that no matter what someone, somewhere is praying for you.  Now go read your Bible, love your family, lover your neighbor, get outside, and love Jesus!

Wow, the place hasn't changed a bit since the last time I was here!  I have been on a blogging sabbatical recently but look to be back on Monday.  bjnotbk has recently been hit with hard times due to the gas crisis, the environmental crisis, the shortage of Ugandan yak pup crisis, the latte crisis, and any other crisis I can add to this list.

Look for serious, hard hitting posts next week with a possible range of topics to include:

Pioneer dresses, why I like them better than kilts

Ask your doctor about growaset

Top 10 reasons why Obama is not the Messiah

as well as some other ideas not fully hatched.

Saw this article today floating around and thought I would share it with you, my friendly, faithful, and good looking readers.

Are labels useful?  Do they help?

Was this manifesto necessary?

I ran over this headline this morning and couldn't agree more

Stay at Home Mom's Worth Nearly $117k Per Year Says Study [link

Although I think the price tag is a bit too low and my wife and all you stay at home moms are under compensated.

That is the question I keep getting from everyone.  You would think that Christmas was just around the corner the way everybody is acting.  The air is thick with excitement.  Excitement for what?  Oh, you mean the government is going to give me back 1/1000th of my own money?  WOW that is grand!  I guess I could go hog wild on a shopping spree, spending my own money...and while I am at it I think I will take out a second mortgage on the house, empty our savings accounts, and take out everything in the 401ks.  I know I will take a big tax hit but hey?  Maybe the government will give it back to me someday right?

How about taking whatever check you receive and putting it in savings or a CD or dare I say pay off debt?  Instead of gratifying your lust for more stuff take this one time give back of your own money and dig yourself out of the 57 tacos you financed while in college and get free.

Even better, how about giving the entire check to your church and stimulate the greatest economy of all.

I dare you?

Oh, by the way?  What are you going to spend your stimulus check on?
