My Top Ten Favorite Sculptures

Here is a wide assortment of sculptures from different time periods that just happen to be my very favorite ones. Some of them I have come to love for their uniqueness and the stories behind them, some of them appeal to my sense of beauty, and some of them I chose because I admire the sculptor's tremendous talent. Again, enjoy, or scratch your head and wonder 'Why in the heck did she pick that one?'

Pieta-Michelangelo

The Pieta--Michelangelo Buonarroti  Beauty, spirituality, talent--it fills your heart. This is my all time favorite sculpture, but the rest are in no particular order.

Surrounded Islands

Surrounded Islands--Christo and Jeanne-Claude  Crazy, but so cool!

Carhenge

Carhenge--Jim Reinders This one is located in my home state of Nebraska.

Iris Leaves and Rowan Berries-Andy Glodsworthy

Iris Leaves and Rowan Berries--Andy Goldsworthy It seems so simple, doesn't it?

Stan Herd-Countryside

Countryside--Stan Herd Another favorite! I would love to see one from the air.

Chinese Pottery Army  Words can't describe these and the tremendous amount of manpower, effort, and time it took to create them.

Football Player-Hanson

Football Player--Duane Hanson So real! Even to individual hairs being glued on separately!

Photobucket

The Thinker--Auguste Rodin A universally loved sculpture (and I betcha everyone takes their pictures in that very same spot and pose)!

Subway (from Ruckus Manhattan-Grooms

Subway (from Ruckus Manhattan)--Red Grooms  This one you can walk right into.

Photobucket

Inside and Out--Dale Chihuly   Until you see this one, you cannot appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship by this amazing glass artist. It, too, is in Nebraska at Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha.

I use the word 'sculpture' very loosely here. I am sure there may be some of these you don't think should fall into this category. You have seen some of them in my previous blogs, of course, and some of them may be new to you and possibly the subjects of future posts. Art enriches your life in so many ways. I hope you surround yourself with it! Don't forget to include an amazing visit to a museum in your travels whenever you can!
