  • Cheap Tricks to watch for...

"Hello, class and welcome to another segment of MAP’s guide to the gray areas of online gameplay and how to counter them if at all possible. We have already covered the bunny jump and camping but today we’ll be talking about one that I discovered for myself recently, while playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live. I wasn’t sure what this is called, but I asked around and found it is commonly dubbed “the standby trick,” and this one is clearly unfair." via Myarcadeplanet.com Read about Standby here

  • Whats an Achievement????

Looking back over my past few posts, I realized I have been alluding to something I never explained: Achievements. In my opinion this was one of Microsoft’s more ingenious designs with the Xbox 360. Every Xbox 360 game you play, with a few exceptions of course, comes standard with 1000 gamer points that can be gained through unlocking achievements. These achievements span most aspects of the game and could contain everything from a simple 30 yard pass in madden to 10,000 kills in gears of war. Overall, it challenges the gamer to complete these goals and compete with friends. Also because many achievements are online multiplayer ones, I believe it has help boost live memberships. Here is an example page contain the achievements I have unlocked.

  • HDDVD vs. Blu-ray Disc and its impact on the system war

For those of you old enough to remember, this is a repeat of VHS vs. Betamax. The two are fighting to become the adopted system within our households. I’m not going to go into technical details analyzing wavelength scan speeds for the sake of keeping this simple. From what I understand, Blu-ray has more potential than HDDVD; however, it is not as cost effective at the moment. The video game industry has a large stake in this. Microsoft and Sony have begun to try to peddle their system as being able to play High definition movies. If one format folds, the system that has supported that system may be in for a world of hurt (PS3 has Blu-ray disc drive built in, while the 360 has an attachable HDdvd drive). My advice wait till this highly expensive equipment, next-gen DVD players, has become more cost effective and when we know which system will be the new betamax and which will be the next VHS.

  • Whats a clan?

When it comes to video games a clan is often just a group of gamers who enjoy playing with each other. Others are more competitive and played ranked matches for clan pride off a site such as www.gamebattles.com . However, somtimes you will find a group who is sponsered and travels to tournaments and other such events. Clans have been around for years and years, but with the popularity of halo2 and it's avialible clan support, clans have gained more noteriety. You can find a clan that fits nearly any catagory you can imagine, ranging from people who live in a certain area to people who enjoy making movies with video games.Their are also some crazy names out there. the most unusual I've seen was ZXS: Zoogenic Zenogenesis Slayers. If you enjoy playing games a clan can be helpful in finding friendly and/or competitive matches.
  • Host

Host (player) – A player’s system contains the server being used. Host (dedicated) – Not part of any player’s machine, has better bandwidth, normally seen with mmog (massive multiplayer online games) In all reality host plays a large role in games. It can be the difference between a shotgun shooting like a sniper or a squirt gun. As well as the fact it is almost always required to cheat. Halo again becomes a good example. The host player has the ability to grenade jump, has more powerful weaponry and sadly can standby. This is one reasoning “bridging” became popular. You could pick who received host with a simple crossover cable connection to a computer and the right program. The only way to remove host is to provide dedicated servers. This is normally more costly though the experience is much nicer. An example of this being used in console form is Counter strike that allowed players to use a second Xbox as a dedicated host allowing more players to be in the game at a time. Another example...
  • Basic Facts About XBOX Cheaters

Hopefully this article will cover the basics of what is cheating on XBOX Live and what isn't. Microsoft / Major Nelson, director of Xbox live programing, defines cheating as follows: "In a nutshell, we consider cheating to be the act of manipulating or interfering with aspects of the game or networking to give yourself or your team an unfair advantage." Honestly that covers everything and well nothing at the same time. Microsoft leaves us with another ambigious statement leaving the true definition in the court of public opinion. One of the games most notorious for cheaters is the famously infamous Halo2, which is also one of my personal favorites. The popularity Halo has reached epic proportions and has reset the standard of excellance for matchmaking on XBOX Live. Even with the tainted black mark of the cheating community and the introduction of a new XBOX console, Halo still remains one of the most played games on Xbox Live, two years after it release. Getting back on topic, Halo2 is...
